I wrote throughout my working life, as a detective and enquiry agent, then as a contract investigator in cold cases and restorative justice. Between 2014 and 2017 I wrote a thriller, ‘Resistance’, about (no surprises) a disaffected and bitter ex-Met detective, Jan Sutherland, who retires to France for a quiet life after he is wrongly accused of corruption and loses his police career. In 2023 I finally completed a sequel, ‘Perdition’, that wraps up the narrative of ‘Resistance’, although each can be read as a story in its own right.
I also tried my hand at some poetry. I published all the books on Amazon using Kindle Direct Publishing.
In the autumn of 2025, during a period of illness, I took to writing a blog, to rationalise events in the world because of President Donald Trump and stave off depression about it all. I have decided to publish these blog entries, mainly essay length, on Amazon, in parts containing twenty pieces. Most are serious, with my thoughts about a potential universal slide into chaos as Trump does things that a few years ago would have been in the pages of a dystopian thriller.
Others are reminiscences and intended to be humorous. If anyone buys the thing, I hope it will encourage any fellow obsessives to write down their thoughts. I have found the exercise both therapeutic and cathartic.
